Camp Cornhusker is a Boy Scout camp near Dubois, NE. This project added a new facility with a lower level that will serve as a tornado safe room and a meeting room for Camp Cornhusker, as well as an upper level education center. The upper level includes a visitor’s office, lounge, kitchen, restrooms, and a 1,500 SF multipurpose room that can be divided into two classrooms with a moveable partition.
The project was designed to achieve a LEED Gold certification with the US Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. LEED promotes an energy efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly construction process and building. The foundation walls are constructed with insulating concrete forms (ICFs) while the upper walls are constructed of structurally insulated panels (SIPs). The roof is constructed of SIPs installed on top of wood trusses.
